All active OppNet College Fellows are eligible to apply for one Opportunity Grant per year towards a summer opportunity. This promotes access to unpaid internships, summer classes, study abroad programs, and other enrichment programs that might not be financially feasible otherwise. 

Due to budget constraints, only career-related opportunities during the summer (May - August) can be funded by OppNet. We are unable to provide funding for academic year (September - April) opportunities.

Some appropriate uses for Opportunity Grants are: travel costs to a study abroad program, unpaid internships/research experiences, long-term unpaid volunteer opportunities related to your career goals, or commuter costs while shadowing a professional.

Some unintended uses for Opportunity Grants are: tuition during the academic year, unexpected financial emergencies, or housing/medical bills. For these cases, select 'Emergency Funding' above.

Many factors are considerd when evaluating applications:

• Attendance in prior summer, winter, and academic year programming (i.e. Summer Series, Career Success Workshops, Winter Conference, etc.)
• Responsiveness to Checker-Inner
• Quality of short answer responses in application
• Connection and commitment to academic and career goals
• Duration of program, if applying for unpaid internship grant
• Valuation of necessary costs, if applying to cover application fees, commuter costs, etc.
